May the Force Be With You

Congratulations, JJ! You’re a true Salem PD officer now!

Not that I necessarily blame him, given the circumstances — his age and level of experience, Ben’s provocations and trash-talk about Abigail, the insinuation that his cousin is alive, etc. — but it’s insane how they keep drawing attention to the corruption on the police force instead of trying to repair it, or at least tuck it neatly away. I was barely able to swallow this whole thing about Hope being the new Commissioner, and that was before Hope (a woman who shot an unarmed elderly man, covered it up, and went to prison, only to be exonerated because it seemed said man hadn’t actually died) walked in on JJ holding a gun on a convicted criminal and managed to scold him without bursting into flames. And then you had Valerie and Abe’s little exchange:

Valerie: Didn’t you also mention that she has a prison record?
Abe: Meh. She was cleared.

Oh, okay! The way he answered that, she might as well have asked if Hope had ever jaywalked. Bizarrely, they then had Abe comment about how Rafe was at a disadvantage in going for the job because his brother had been Raines’s conspirator. Hope has been imprisoned twice in a decade for violent crimes! Rafe helped her cover up one of them! It’s no wonder JJ didn’t hesitate in pulling a gun on Ben. It’s how the people ahead of him have succeeded in their careers!

I’m glad they finally stopped short-changing Paige although I loathed her character. It felt true to stoned couger-chasing bad seed JJ which I hope will be making a comeback!

Can we talk about JJ’s suit too?! It’s amazing.

I have no desire to see Paige back, but yeah, it would’ve been absurd not to reference her, especially given her place in JJ’s life *and* the fact that she was Rafe and Gabi’s sister (which is still so weird). Poor Serena, though. They FINALLY mentioned her later on, once, in passing.

I love JJ’s suit. Like I’m hunting online and think I found an appropriate facsimile (or, since this is Days, it’s probably the same one). Can’t wait to upstage the couple at the next wedding I go to!

it would have helped if his finger was on the trigger….

    “Happiness…….is a warm gun…..yes it is.”

I honestly forgot Serena’s name. I kept asking if they mentioned the elephant girlfriend.

Even Eric seems to have forgotten about Sarena even though she is in part to blame for the beginning of his rapid progression of alcoholism.
My new name for Hope is Hope-a-crite. It’s unbelievable that she suspends JJ for pulling a gun on Ben yet, turns a blind eye to Rafe for physically assaulting Ben.
By the way, Ryan Gosling wore a maroon suit very similar to JJ’s during his SNL monologue last Saturday. I have to say JJ won the “Who Wore it Better” challenge. JJ put on a real white dress shirt and big boy tie. Gosling made the suit look like trash because he wore a wife-beater and a too tight cream/maroon abstract blob print sweater straight out of the ’70s. It baffled me that such a hot guy would want to look like a sleazy ’70s porn director.

I hope someone has Eric bring up Serena soon. If anyone would remember a boring, minor character who died, it’s him!

It was almost like they were trolling us with Hope yesterday. If they’d just had her reprimand JJ… fine, I guess. It’s a way to show her adhering to the rules and doing her job. But throwing in that Rafe element, and her not doing anything about him, just compounded it all.

I had the same thought about Gosling’s suit! It had a bit more of a sheen to it, which I didn’t love, and that sweater fit horribly. It was a few inches too short. JJ definitely wins!

The Horton square seems quite cramped. That cardboard yogurt shop is in every shot. Is it because they needed the space to put up the church set or is it a permanent thing?

    • mykleraus Says:

This is how it’s been for a while now. They basically cut the set in half — remember how it had that other side with the couch and the stairs and the archway? A few years ago, they compressed the whole thing. I hate it. It doesn’t even seem like a place people would want to be.
