Raise Your Glass

I’m having a lot of conflicting emotions over Friday’s episode.

Like… I hate seeing Lucas and Brady fall off the wagon (okay, mostly Lucas, because Brady has worn me down by doing this every time something goes moderately wrong in his life, like they forget to hold the cilantro on his lunch order), but it was also so interesting to see the two of them commiserating. We get so few scenes of friends, especially men, actually talking about all the insane shit that goes on in their lives.

I also loved the scenes of Lucas and John earlier in the week, as well as Brady and Paul acting like brothers. I know a lot of it comes from a plot-driven place, but if the plots put characters in one another’s orbits in ways that make sense, then, well… good on the plots!

On the flip side, we had Bonnie and Hattie, who… someone get me an Ibuprofen, okay? These two are funny in their own ways, but it really helps to have a ‘straight man’ around to play off them. Otherwise, it’s just Deidre Hall and Judi Evans — who, by the way, clearly appear to be having a blast, which does bring some needed energy to the screen — cackling and shimmying and doing all this other stuff that, while it might be amusing in small doses, just takes up scene after scene without advancing the story or telling us anything meaningful about these characters or the people whose lives they are stealing. The phrase “a little goes a long way” was invented for these two. There’s a whole wish list of things I would love to see on Days, and “trashy versions of Marlena and Adrienne watching porn while wearing leftover Melaswen costumes” ain’t one of them.

due to my channel being interrupted at 1:30ish because they had to have the Moron In Chief spewing his garbage til 2 PM i missed half of this show.
i’ve had it with hattie, bonnie, anjelica and their antics. wtf is up with this crap? waste of time. very sad to see the boys falling off the wagon but there seems to be some well needed male bonding finally going on which we rarely see…..so that is great. if only they got wasted enough to rip off their shirts whooping it up…..

I actually managed to catch the show Friday when it aired. Unfortunately, there were storms so, the TV went mosaic and cut in and out during some portions; I had to rewatch later on the NBC app. I hate the repetitive obnoxious commercials which I can’t fast forward or skip over on the app especially the “Little Sweet” Dr. Pepper ads starring a falsetto Prince and Seth Green love child. Also, I can’t stand that very long Clear Blue Easy commercial where everybody is unnaturally overjoyed that they are pregnant including an uppidy group of girls who look like they are on a college campus.

Anyhow, I’m glad I didn’t miss a second of the Brady/Lucas debauchery. I really want to know what state allows bar patrons to buy a bottle of liquor and serve themselves? The bartender informed Brady it was two for one shots at Happy Hour so, I’m guessing half off for the bottle, right? Well done on bringing up “trashy exes” that Brady and Lucas have (or had) in common. How could I laugh my butt off yet, synonymously feel so sad and sorry for them? I agree Brady falls off the wagon quite a bit, however Lucas has been clean and and sober for many years and didn’t hesitate. Maggie is both Brady and Lucas’s AA sponsor and expected to see her pop up but, I’m glad Chloe came to the rescue, nice surprise.

The repetitive commercials on the online platforms drive me insane. I remember there used to be an I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter commercial with Kim Cattrall, and it would literally play at EVERY SINGLE BREAK. For weeks of episodes. I started screaming when the show went to commercial because I couldn’t handle it anymore.

I hate when the characters wind up with bottles of liquor that they pour themselves. Who is even running TBD now that Dario is gone?! It happens at the Pub sometimes, but I can go with it if it’s a Brady family member doing it.

I liked Chloe showing up! I wonder where that’ll go.

I thought Chloe moved to NYC due her singing career? Also, I heard Nadia Bjorlin was pregnant again and needed some time off from acting so, I was shocked to see her pop in so soon. Since Holly is in foster care and Chloe doesn’t have visitation, I’m assuming Chloe returned to check on Brady since she heard through the grapevine things weren’t so peachy keen for him at the moment. Chloe could very well be the driving nail in the coffin of Brady/Nicole’s romance and help paveway for a much needed short but, sweet Ericole reunion. Chloe has to be a little jealous and doubtful of Nicole and Brady’s relationship, after all, Chloe loved Beady and was married to him once upon a time; it’s clear that Chloe still cares about Brady and might be afraid Nicole will hurt him.
Speaking of “men in common”, it would be quite an interesting twist if Chloe killed Demios? Chloe despised that man too.

I’m not sure why they had Chloe move to New York when they did, other than that they had nothing to use her for during the writing transition. I think she’ll be onscreen for a bit, then gone again for maternity leave — but her whole run since the 2016 return has been very confusing to me. I’d actually like for them to give Chloe and Brady a real chance.

Chloe could be an outlier for Deimos’s killer. You’re right. I guess we don’t know for sure what Nadia’s status with the show is…
