You Blue It

Oh dear. You know things are grim when even GOD has to live in the Blue Room.

Yes, I’m praying for the Set Dec department, too.

You’d think I would just accept this and stop caring eventually, but they always have to one-up themselves, so we were blessed on Friday with an incredibly awkward cut from Tripp trying to kill Kayla in a blue on-call room to Gabi wailing about Chad in a blue chapel. Eventually this entire show is just going to be St. Daniel sitting in that room, telling us what’s going on with various Salemites offscreen, huh?

I guess these two didn’t get the memo that they could double-book the Blue Room, though.

For someone who spends so much time telling Hattie how stupid she is, Anjelica isn’t exactly proving to be a genius herself. Maybe don’t conduct all your shady business, discussing your various and sundry kidnapping and life-stealing plots, out in the open where anyone could come upon you? I’m no criminal mastermind, but that seems like a good rule of thumb.

doesn’t anj have a blue room to conduct shady biz in???

  2. Jamie Says:

Why are the walls blue?? That’s the part that gets me the most. Do they not realize it wouldn’t be so noticeable if they just painted the damn walls white??

Can we talk about Angelica’s outfit for a second? Never mind…I just can’t…

I know! Just have a normal square white room with one damn door. They picked the most distinctive set to recycle endlessly.

Anjelica has been dressed like a damn bedspread since the moment she appeared. It’s truly something.

  3. DW Says:

Yes, the Blue hospital chapel with a single pew and a stick on stain glass window… I was transfixed by that window…

Fairchilds wardrobe continues to look like they found the key to a wardrobe that hasn’t been updated since the 70s

  4. DW Says:

yes, a couple of cans of white paint and removing one of the doors would do wonders!

    • mykleraus Says:

It’s such a strange choice. The room is so specific, between the paint, the two doors (which I guess they think makes it so they can have different entrances?), and the weird angle.

  5. Damon L. Jacobs Says:

This is one of your funniest Mikey! Poor God!!!

I CAN’T stand the blue box! It would be so much more pragmatic to use that white hospital room for offices / churches / lounges and such.

    • mykleraus Says:

I just don’t understand why they can’t have a plain, white, square room to dress for different things as they need! It’s like they’re being blackmailed by Sherwin Williams into featuring that goddamned blue paint in as many scenes as possible.

I imagine set design for this show is a thankless job and I feel for all involved. It must be hard when saving money is important and it shows all around you as you try to work and make this show hum… Having said that it’s so much fun to make fun of the sets!

Those twinkle lights are everywhere too. Were they hatching their evil plans in the outdoor waiting area of an Olive Garden?

    • mykleraus Says:

Agreed. The set decorators (among other departments) must be working within such limited constraints. I still cringe when they do stuff like use that very obvious ex-Kiriakis sofa in the Martin House — couldn’t they sell it on Craigslist for $200 and buy something else? But yeah, I get that they have major limitations.

LOL about the Olive Garden. It’s true!

  7. I agree on feeling bad for the production crew to work on such limited budgets. To think that they are working with something like half the money they had in the 80’s is crazy!

Considering the blue room overuse to the point of absurdity, I was so impressed with that diner set they used when Steve and Kayla met Tripp Unless I missed something, I think it was new. At the time, I figured it was going to be used/redressed constantly to amortize the cost. As far as I noticed, it was only used for those two or three of Tripp’s initial episodes.

I remember thinking it was strange that they shelled out for a diner instead of meeting at the Phoenix branch of that Prague/Greece cafe. The windows definitely were from the old Cheatin’ Heart set, but it’s odd that they did a new build for something that only got one use.

The world’s largest IKEA is only a half-mile down the street from the Burbank Studios, they should just grab a camera and shoot the whole show there. They’ve got about 4 times as many sets and they can feed the cast & crew cheap Swedish food. Its a win win. (Actually somebody already did this – and its brilliant).

  9. Shea Says:

Didn’t they use the blue room for the chapel back when we had the whole Daniel/Brady heart dilemma? I swear they have to know what a joke the blue room is. It’s bad enough that the color is so distinct but the two doors drive me nuts too.

I’ve watch some of the The Bay now that it is on Amazon and I think they film at people’s houses a lot. I wonder how long it will be before Days does that…LOL.

    • mykleraus Says:

They’ve definitely used it as the chapel before. I really hope they’re at least laughing at this as they’re forced to dress it over and over and over…

I think Ladies of the Lake was using personal homes, too. At least those have some depth to them!
