Fresh Looks
This outfit makes me want to come back in my next life as Kate Roberts.
I mean, yeah, you can keep the complete inability to judge character, the compulsion to attempt murder over and over, the track record of sleeping with multiple generations of the same families, etc. But that outfit? Sure. If you’re going to be a ridiculous diva, do it with a daytime cape.
Also looking good this week: Hope. Also being brave as hell this week: Hope. Who wears a pristine white blouse and white jacket to lunch?!
That is bold, lady. But am I completely insane for not having minded the scenes of her lunching with the Hernandez siblings? Maybe because they’ve backed off “Rope” so much, but they didn’t irritate me at all in Wednesday’s episode. The bit with the tequila shots and the worm was cute, and I liked how they gave Hope and Gabi that little moment about Julie’s hatred of Gabi and how Hope is in no position to judge, which cannot be said enough.
There have been a whole bunch of cross-story interactions this week that have been serious breaths of fresh air, actually.
Any time they remember that the Deveraux and Johnson families are connected, I’m thrilled. Steve and Kayla spend so much time isolated with Joey, and there’s so much rich history to play with the Steve/Jack stuff. Abigail and Tripp meeting — and using her new job to push the Ava business along — was also one of those beats that isn’t necessary to move story, but it deepens things so much. I could still do with about 100% more of Joey interacting with JJ and Abigail, but this was a start.
And I’m sort of interested in this JJ/Lani thing? Who knew?!
I have no idea where any of this is headed or if it’ll tie into something larger (how many “local drug kingpins” have the Salem PD had to take down in the last decade?), but Lani being forced to overdose and her freakout in the hospital bed were pretty interesting. I’ll never understand why members of the Salem PD conduct their surveillance missions in public places like The Alley and The Other Alley, but that’s par for the course with this joke of an operation.
I just realized that everything I’ve praised in this post falls under the heading of “not the terrible, forced Abigail/Chad/Gabi triangle or Nicole and Brady’s Canadian adventure.” Go figure…

They’re ridiculous! What hospital is draping the beds in sensual purple linens?!

OMG! Did the Jarlena fans buy those sheets? Are we heading to another Sheetgate episode?

HAHAHA. That was honestly one of the funniest things that ever happened in Days fandom.

Did you used to be on TWoP? The commentary there on Sheetgate was A+.

No. I wasn’t really even watching Days back then so I have only heard it all second hand but when I saw those purple sheets it was the first thing that came to my mind.

It was truly one of the most hilarious/WTF moments I’ve ever witnessed in this or any fandom.

what is the sheetgate thingy??

In 2007 or so, they were really struggling to figure out actor guarantees and the budget, so they kept rotating the vets offscreen for weirdly long periods of time. The John/Marlena fans sent in a set of sheets because they wanted their couple to have a love scene when they were onscreen, and months later, the sheets showed up… in a Steve/Kayla love scene. As you can imagine, all hell broke loose online, and it was every bit as hilarious and ridiculous as you’d expect.

There are some pretty scary Jarlena fans out there on the internet. I remember seeing some message board posts before their last reconciliation and their fans were posting things about what the show better do and how their scenes better go…like he HAS to kiss her like this….or touch her just like that…like they are trying to dictate every character interaction when the damn show had been filmed 6 months before they were posting their comments on the internet. And they were unbelievably rude to anyone who didn’t agree with them. I can’t really imagine how unhinged some of them got during sheetgate.

That fanbase (not to generalize all people who like them, obviously, but the really vocal, overzealous faction) is vicious. The only thing like it that I’ve really seen are some of the EJami-vs-Lumi folks.
