Days Wins at the Daytime Emmys

The Daytime Emmys, a confusing mess held in the back room of an Olive Garden in Peoria, Illinois or something, were handed out this weekend, and the big headline as far as Days goes was Kate Mansi’s win for Outstanding Supporting Actress.

A lot of times, the winners for these things are severe WTFs, but this one is spot-on. Mansi turned in some incredibly strong work as Abigail descended into madness; you could see her coming into her own as an actress, and the strength of her performance finally elevated the character into a full-blown leading role. I’m thrilled for her, and also thrilled that I didn’t torture myself by sitting through the live stream of this thing on Snapchat or whatever they were doing this year.

Days also took home five awards at the Creative Arts Emmys, for casting, best original song, music, sound mixing, and stunt coordinating. Check out the full list of Daytime Emmy winners here.

Don’t know what you were expecting, but I thought the show was well-produced and (except for Mary Hart’s neverending speech) well-paced Oh, and no stupid commercials, perhaps the biggest sell of all. Still too much other daytime stuff for this die-hard soap fan, but all told, a pretty good show.

From the looks of it, they stepped up their game this year. A few of the more recent ones have been SO dismal. I’ll never forget having to sit through Marie Osmond singing “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and them showing clips of the wrong actors.

Good for Kate! Her early days were filled with playing second fiddle to Melanie and sitting around doing nothing with the first big chin Cameron. I’m so happy she finally got her time to shine and she made the most of it!

    • mykleraus Says:

Big Chin Cameron, hahaha. It’s crazy that it took them like four years to figure out what to do with her Abigail! She floated around in a very supporting role for way too much of her time on the show.

Kate looks sensational in this photo – thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing what she gets up to next.

I did watch the live stream of the broadcast and the awards were held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium which was a huge step up over whatever hotel ballroom they were in last year!

I was really happy for Kate and Days did win 5 of the technical awards for sound editing, music, song, stunt coordination and casting. I am not sure I understand the award for casting and they won an award for that song Claire kept obsessing over how many hits her upload was getting and nearly got herself killed over..woohoo!

Some random thought about the broadcast….Susan Lucci looks like she hasn’t aged in the last 20 years. Why did they need so many commercial breaks when there were no damn commercials? Ari Zucker looked like she was ready for that 80s themed prom Days had last year…might be worst I have ever seen her hair look! James Lastivic and Paige Searcy are a cute couple and actually I miss her on Days. The opening musical number might have been a good idea in theory….several soap stars singing Seasons of Love but it was just embarassing (Eric Martsolf and Nadia Bjorlin were in it) but then they brought out what I swear they announced as a HIGH SCHOOL choir that looked more like a retirement home choir and then paraded some of the stars out and the whole thing was just AWKWARD! I might have gotten a little teary eyed when they ended the in memoriam segment with Joe Mascolo raising his glass.

The In Memoriam segments always do me in. Ugh.

It seems like they generally did a much better job producing this year’s awards than the last, like, five or six, at least. But those musical segments tend to be so painful. I’m glad I missed that based on what I’ve read, haha.

I have NO idea what was going on with Ari’s look. She is a beautiful woman but somehow manages to look insane like 80% of the time.
