Plum’s the Word

It’s nice to see that, even in the thick of such drama as readjusting to civilian life after being imprisoned, aiding a fugitive on the run with an infant, and holding vigil over one’s recently poisoned daughter, the good people of Salem still make the effort to obey some kind of town-wide ordinance that everyone must wear purple.

I actually looked up when Anti-Bullying Day is, because I remembered the cast taking backstage photos in purple clothes for that one year, but nope, it’s May 4. So who knows what the hell was going on here? Even Nicole’s incredibly nosy and irritating neighbor, Hillary, got in on the action!

What a nightmare of a human being. Aside from pulling out a damn pistol in the home of someone she just met, she seems to be fully aware that she’s a tertiary character in the world of Days of Our Lives and thus has no function other than to interfere in the lives of the main characters. You know what’s a great way to make your neighbors hate you? Grilling them on the minutiae of their own lives! Take your banana bread and go watch some Netflix, lady.

Kate also made sure to adhere to the new wardrobe edict while consoling the cancer patient whom she once punched in the face.

I continue to enjoy them using Lauren Koslow in this way, and Judi Evans again knocked it out of the park as Adrienne fell apart over her looming double mastectomy, but it kind of just feels like they’re playing this same beat over and over again. Everyone’s more or less acting like a decent human being, but that doesn’t make for the most exciting soap opera, y’know? It’s like they just decided to lean on the novelty of these two characters, played by very strong actresses, actually getting along, in lieu of writing a story.

You’d think Adrienne’s brother would also want to be there for this, but nah, he had to travel to Arizona to blow through a month’s worth of story in one episode with his heretofore-unknown son.

I have no idea why they didn’t build out some serious mystery before Steve and Kayla actually found Tripp and revealed themselves to him, but that seems to be the order of the day lately. First impressions: Lucas Adams can actually act and reminds me a bit of young Stephen Nichols; holy hell, is he hot. Not a bad way to get me invested in a new character, honestly.

  1. Barbie Says:

At least we got out once a week fix with S&K. And Tripp is a very good actor.

    • mykleraus Says:

I really like him so far. I wish they’d made finding him more of a story for S&K, but I guess they’re dying to get him back to Salem for the inevitable…

  2. Mo Says:

I’m glad Kayla and Patch get a do-over son! Hopefully this one won’t murder people and washes his hair. I’m liking the character although his relaxed attitude is a bit strange. “My eye-patch wearing secret agent dad and his doctor wife show up and ask me to travel to another city with them so they can test my DNA? Cool.”.

As usual Jennifer is dressed like my nana on a cool Fall afternoon. Purple turtleneck with pink and red flowers under a grey shawl. How will Eric resist?!

Brady wandering around Salem telling himself he didn’t love Nicole was was one of the most frustrating things this show has done in awhile. First, of course he does he’s been in love with her 11 times over the year! Second, with what we know (Nicole is leaving) it will be yet another failed relationship for Salem’s prettiest idiot although I guess the writers didn’t know that at the time.

I thought it was bizarre how they crammed, like, a week’s worth of scenes into that one episode. Tripp really knows how to roll with the punches, huh? He was just like, “Well, this is cool.”

Jennifer’s outfit was… I actually liked the top, I think, but they really do granny her up at the drop of a hat.

This Brady/Nicole thing is so forced! You should not have to do this much work to establish that two characters who believably love each do, in fact, actually love each other. I have no clue why it’s suddenly turned romantic for either of them, though I guess Brady does have his trusty hero complex.

      • Michelle Says:

I mean Chad fell in love with Gabi in two weeks cause she bought him some matching ties. It makes sense Brady is in love with Nicole because…………… he just is and other people say he is that’s why.

Dena is on top of those great romances I tell ya.

      • mykleraus Says:

It drives me nuts. SHOW US why these people love each other! Even if it’s that Nicole seems to need Brady, while Theresa wouldn’t let him in while she was going through her crisis… that’s something. It’s based in character and makes emotional sense. But put that onscreen!

  3. Simon Parris Says:

Hopefully the New Hunk Does Early Shirtless Scene comes around very quickly for Lucas Adams

  4. Shea Says:

I’m so frustrated with the pacing of the Tripp storyline. I mean I have known this character was coming for over a year. The audition tape was leaked online so long ago that I started to wonder if they had changed their mind about the storyline altogether. After reading Mo’s comment above about a do-over son for S&K I suddenly remembered that baby Joey was briefly kidnapped from the hospital as an infant. He was returned unharmed but with a weird mark (needle mark?) on his leg or something. Could Tripp turn out to be the real Joey instead?

    • mykleraus Says:

I was thinking they had dropped the character, too. Then we heard about Lucas Adams being cast literally like six months ago. This tape-to-air lag is INSANE.

I sort of remember the Joey kidnapping. I think I read that he was going to be returned with a Phoenix tattoo, but SN for some reason made them change that…

  5. ADW Says:

I’m enjoying Tripp so far, he’s a good actor. I was wondering why Kayla and Steve left when they did as well. The timing seemed odd with Adrienne’s surgery AND Black Patch had things going on.
Needless to say, that purple floral bib and granny shaw was not the worst outfit Jennifer has worn.
You are right, Nicole’s neighbor is so nosy and irritating; you would think she was a member of the Horton family. 😉

    • mykleraus Says:

It’s really odd that Steve isn’t there for Adrienne right now. Especially since Kayla was a big part of her diagnosis!

Hillary probably WILL turn out to be a long-lost Horton randomly living in Canada!
