Take It Off

You know what I’m always dying to throw on right after I’ve been released from the hospital after a near-death ordeal? A tight, hot pink, lacy, two-piece sheath dress with exposed midriff. In the Midwest. In February.

I mean, Gabi Hernandez is lucky enough to have Camila Banus’s body, so she’d look good in almost anything, but this is pushing it. What about “I was held captive for days and nearly froze to death” makes one want to dress like a Pussycat Doll attending the VMAs in 2006?

Speaking of “if you’ve got it, flaunt it…”

Good grief. Looks like prison treated him a whole lot better than it did Hope. And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but those scenes between him and Jennifer were kind of… smoldering? Her coaxing him back into the land of the living is definitely shades of early Jennifer/Jack, but I’m not mad at it. It’s a powerful dynamic, and it’s amazing how much energy scenes can have when you bother to create believable character-based obstacles. I could get into this.

In conclusion, can someone explain to me why White Jade is still on this show?

And who in the world thought I’d be interested in a story about her and her confusingly black father? Oh god, this liver thing is going to be a way to establish that he isn’t actually her father, isn’t it? That isn’t a spoiler — I just guessed it while writing the beginning of this paragraph. This girl seems capable of standing upright and speaking simultaneously, so couldn’t they just have made her Ciara or, like, anyone who I cared to see on my screen?

I know I am not a fashion expect but I swear they just try way too hard on this show. I don’t know why they can’t just wear cute everyday types of clothes for everyday and save party dresses for parties? I’m not saying I want to see a bunch of people running around in yoga pants but it wouldn’t kill them to wear a pair of jeans once in a while! And I know they shoot the show 6 months in advance but someone buy the costume folks a calendar. Last summer we had all the men running around in leather jackets and didn’t Chad wear a Mr. Roger’s cardigan half the summer, too? Eric looks great shirtless and in a pair of jeans (and for some reason I picture him barefoot too) and I am enjoying Jeneric more and more.

I don’t understand the point of even having Jade and her dad around at this point but I do like Real Andrews so I won’t exactly complain but White Jade has not grown on me. I actually miss Paige Searcy.

They do try too hard. Maybe it’s some thought that they have to maintain the glamour that soaps once represented, but I hate this thing where everyone always looks like they’re going clubbing. Maybe it’s a Kardashian-influenced thing, too. But so often the women are dressed absolutely ridiculously for everything they do, be it hanging around the house or stopping by the office. It makes me nuts. They’re a little better with the men, though far too many of them wear suits ALL the time.

And the calendar thing tends to be an issue, too. Like does no one think, “Hey, we just shot the Christmas episodes, so everyone should still be wearing coats”? It seems like such basic logic.

YES! I’m totally digging the Eric/Jen stuff, too. When he told her to get lost and she said she would be back soon, it was VERY old school Jennifer Rose. FINALLY! For years now, she’s just been Jenbot — present in body, but not in spirit or personality. Hopefully, this is starting a new trend!

Since they had her buy the Spectator, she definitely feels more alive than she has in a long, long while. This whole re-focusing of her character is really working for me.

      • Hard Candy Says:

Absolutely! And she and Adrienne finally remembered that they were in-laws! 🙂 It’s actually really cool that they seem to pay attention to the fans. We’ve been wanting Jennifer back on the reporting beat for ages now.

Now can they give them an office??

Eric is beautiful. If Nicole is really leaving, only frequent scenes that include a shirtless Eric will keep me watching this show.
