I am loving seeing Rafe interact with his parents, siblings, and friends during meals at the kitchen table.

These kinds of scenes go back to the root of soaps. This kind of writing has been sorely missing for a long time. Prior to the Hernandez family, when was the last time we saw characters prepare food and sit down to a meal together in their own kitchens?

Talented soap writers can and do wring plenty of drama out of these situations. I hope this is the beginning of a return to this writing style on the show.

I’ve been thinking the same thing! It makes me miss the Hortons having a kitchen in that house. So much of life happens in the kitchen for families — I might not be crazy about everything they’re doing with the Hernandezes, but the vibe of these scenes is definitely a bright spot these days.
