Black Like Night

I hope you all appreciated how Marlena slipped into her ISA-approved Black Leather Rescue Jacket before taking off to crash the rescue mission.

She seemed to be channeling Salem Stalker Marlena when Belle tried to talk her out of going, no? If I had seen my mother running around town hacking up various friends and relatives, I probably would’ve backed off, too.

As annoying as I find Belle, I’ve enjoyed her exponentially more the last two times they’ve put her in scenes with Marlena. It’s this kind of stuff that she should be around for. I don’t give two hoots about her and Shawn’s inability to ever be on the same page, or her bizarre, “carefree” fling with Philip, a man she already cheated on because she wasn’t excited by being married to him. And her shitty parenting has mostly made me loathe her, though some of the recent material with Claire has at least been interesting. But using her in more scenes with her family — Marlena, John, and her brothers — that aren’t about her might do wonders. It’s really noticeable how segmented the show is these days when you think about the fact that Belle still hasn’t had an actual scene of interaction with Paul, and she hasn’t seen Brady for weeks, and Brady hasn’t actually shared a scene with Claire, etc. It’s like they’re trying so hard to sell us on a bunch of crap no one particularly wants that they’re casting aside the slam-dunk scenes way too often. Kayla and Hope’s catch-up scenes last week, for example, didn’t explicitly do anything to further story — same as Monday’s Marlena/Belle ones — but they rounded out the universe, helped land story points, and clarified emotions and motivations. If you don’t do that, all the action-packed excitement in the world isn’t going to have legs.

I love the way you described the Kalya and Hope scenes. I too enjoyed them but could not find the words to articulate why. You can put into words what we are thinking. Great job!

Aw, thanks. I’ve been latching onto those types of scenes any time they give them to me lately, because they’re so rare. The Hope/Steve scenes a few weeks back were a real breath of fresh air, too.

i agree about this mess of writing re: Belle, ect….but

who the flock does marlena think she is magically turning up at the warehouse out of the blue….. when it took blueprints and whatevs for rafe to convince whats his mug john was never moved….

i wanted to smack HER in the back of the head with a gun…..really annoying. go home and bake cookies for johns homecoming doc….. or go get a wax and freshen up to jump his bones….or go to work and have a PT encounter for crissakes….anything but try to be all mission impossible or mr and mrs smith…. aaaarrgghhhhh.

we need more gays lesbians. bisexuals hey! they need a trans person. let’s get interesting DOOL let’s get REAL, people….. these choices i mentions are guaranteed drama, mess and monkey barrel fun for the whole family! thank you.

Like, yeah, Marlena, you’re going to make this BETTER by marching in there? This woman can’t even take her great-granddaughter to the mall without winding up in mortal peril.

It’s really sort of appalling how lily-white and straight Salem still is. There aren’t even any Jewish people! Shouldn’t giving characters more diverse backgrounds be fodder for more interesting stories?

o christ on the cross…..couldn’t they come up with a more viable reason ‘mami’ is finally in town? kidnapped, drugged and held by the people who took john and paul? who is she, ringo??
what a horrible terrible ridiculous story and well…..FEH!

    • mykleraus Says:

Which means this flake STILL didn’t come see her kids voluntarily!!!

      • underyourwing Says:

but she sure came in with a huge amount of judgement on her ex? husband and is trying to butt into how her kids feel and the decisions they make or may want to. i already don’t like this woman. BUTT OUT!

      • mykleraus Says:

I mean, he DID abandon her with four kids and got her kidnapped, so I can’t blame her there…

Someone pointed out on Twitter that everyone dressed in their all black “stealth” outfits to sneak into a completely white room. Ha!
