What Happened in Salem: Week of January 11th

Another week, another series of highly questionable life choices…

Rafe raced into the oddly deserted DiMera mansion to find Hope standing over Stefano’s dead body. After spending several hours hanging out with the body while they debated what to do, they cleaned up the crime scene, escorted the body out through the secret tunnel (though they probably could’ve paraded it through the Town Square and no one would’ve noticed), and disposed of it in an old warehouse. They made it appear as though Stefano had fled the country. Andre was suspicious, but Chad was like, “Yeah, sounds about right” — though he later spotted some blood on a statue in the study.

You are so insightful and accurate.

Why did no servant hear the gun shots when Hope shot Stefano?
Why were the teens at school on New Year’s and what teen boy would admit to liking One Direction? And what was up with the glaring lighting during the school scene?
Is it just me, or is Eve being pitted against Kate for the affections of Eduardo? If so, that could be a great storyline!

Thanks for this update. I have been watching DAYS on the Pop Channel. My cable provider just cut off POP unless I pay more for cable. I am now debating if I should just pay more; get a DVR? just watch DAYS on my computer? Urgh….. But I do appreciate your summaries!!

I can’t tell if we’re supposed to have seen that Eve/Eduardo/Kate thing as some sort of triangle. Honestly, I think a lot of what they throw that whole group is consciously made as filler. “Make it look like something interesting, but it doesn’t matter!” It’s irritating because there’s so much potential. That whole BS thing with Eve/Justin and then Justin calling Adrienne felt cheap, too.

That’s so annoying about POP! WTF. My TV died last week (RIP), so I’ve been watching Days on NBC.com. It isn’t perfect, but they’re always up the next morning, so I just watch the previous day’s episode while I work out in the morning. I think it’ll be annoying when there’s an episode I really want to see day-of, but right now, it isn’t the worst.

      • VKing Says:

Thanks so much for suggesting NBC.com—I will give that a try!

As for Justin and Adrienne–his call did seem like a cheap time filler….as did the entire storyline on Adrienne’s breast cancer scare.

On a different note, I bought Meng’s 50th Anniversary book on Days. Looking through it brought back great memories…..book is filled with lovely photos. And it is amazing to see how some of the stars have aged so beautifully. On the other hand, I have spotted some goofs. For example, in some pix, Patch wears his eye patch on the left eye–others the right eye….too funny.

      • mykleraus Says:

I have the 45th anniversary one proudly (shamefully) displayed on my coffee table. I was hoping someone would get me the 50th one for Christmas, so I might need to get it for myself now.

I wonder if some of those Patch photos got flipped?

FYI…There are still some people getting episodes up on YouTube either the day of or the next day. You may want to check out DaysFan28 on twitter. I DVR the show but some days it is hard to find time to watch it in the evenings so I wind up watching on NBC.com (when it works) or the watchNBC app but sometimes I like to find it on YouTube where I am not forced to watch commercials.

      • mykleraus Says:

Oh, thanks for the tip! That’s helpful.

      • Shea Says:

Oh and I have the Days 50 book too. I have really enjoyed seeing all of those old pics. FYI…the eye patch goofs are due to photos being reversed. I have no idea why they would want to do that especially when the eye patch makes it so obvious! I know back the 80s I bought or subscribed to like every Soap magazine out there and my friend and I had Steve and Kayla scrapbooks full of photos and articles (I was just a teenager). Anyway, it used to happen a lot in those magazine photos and it drove me insane even back then.

      • mykleraus Says:

Ah-ha! I knew it. I feel like, of all performers, SN wouldn’t screw up that way.

      • VKing Says:

Thanks for the Youtube suggestion and the eye patch goof explanation!

Thanks for the recap (every week, but especially this one)! Normally when I fall behind, I catch up over the weekend, but I’ve been so bored with Days lately, I just said fuck it.

Do you know if the episodes have aired yet from when Dena left on a family emergency? Are these them? I’ve seen a few people on twitter saying that Dena is out, and I’m just generally confused.

    • mykleraus Says:

I don’t blame you. I find that this blog is most of my motivation to watch lately. So much happens and yet none of it really matters, so it’s kind of… whatever.

I think we’re nearly to the time where Dena went on leave, airing-wise. Maybe another few weeks? I’m pretty sure she’s out for good. Beth Milstein stepped in to co-headwrite with Josh Griffith, and Dena doesn’t seem to be back. So the show might feel different again once Milstein’s influence is felt.

when will Kate get to retire as the whore of Babylon? now, Ed(wierdo)??

  4. underyourwing Says:

more like the Salem Petri Dish……have it your way.

  5. underyourwing Says:

i think i was a bit harsh on kate……when you recall some others that contributed to The Dish…..ay? xxoo in a Clean way!

    • Shea Says:

I just call her the town mattress. And I am so sick of it that I really have no use for the character anymore. If they insist on keeping her around then I wish they would just go ahead and stick her and Roman back together and forget trying to write any romance for either one of them.

      • mykleraus Says:

I actually love Kate, but I’m tired of her gravitating toward every shady new guy in town. She should at least be more cautious at this point! I still really enjoyed the Kate/Stefano marriage, screwy as it was. Something about that fit both of them.

  6. ADW Says:

Great re-cap! 😀 I just call Kate “the town bicycle”, everyone has had a ride. Of course, Nicole, Brady, and Daniel come in a close second, third, fourth respectively. News flash Victor: before you call Theresa a hussy again, get your facts straight, she’s never cheated on Brady and has slept with only two men in four years. Meanwhile, Roman hasn’t gotten any ass in about 10 years or so and Kayla didn’t bed anyone since Steve last left her! John was quite a woman-eater back in the day, I’m sure once John finds out who the heck he is, we will find out about some more off screen lovers AND possibly some more kids?

    • mykleraus Says:

No more kids for John! Paul was the last straw. (It’s also ridiculous that they didn’t find a way to make him a child who was conceived during one of John’s brainwashing spells…)

  7. underyourwing Says:

john and marlena are pretty useless anymore….as are a lot of other folks….roman being one……..they either have too much shit going on with some people and not enough with too many others……they need to clean up and not by having a mass murderer around again or dropping a bomb on the freakin’ town.

    • mykleraus Says:

I actually love how they’re using Marlena — as a mother and doctor. They need to figure out how to use John in that sort of capacity without all the ISA silliness. And at least Roman is finally around for his son’s crisis instead of being forgotten! Small victories.
