The Mourning After

Ugh, I hate when you’re sitting around with your recently deceased father’s ex-wife and fiancée, and you realize all three of you have had sex with the man who got your dad’s heart!

All this caterwauling over Daniel is exactly what I would’ve predicted if you had told me a year ago that he would tragically die in a car accident and have his heart donated. A wing of the hospital! Kayla breaking down over her colleague instead of her damn brother who just died! Nicole schlepping all over town in that hideous coat (where’s the brown leather jacket?)! Some of the fallout has been well played and necessary, given his prominence in recent years — like the Jennifer/JJ stuff — but you would think Alice Horton died again, the way everyone is carrying on.

I’m not sure how to feel about the makeover Salem High got this week.

My guess is that they shot this in the studio hallway, outfitted with some posters and a few lockers. Not bad, but they clearly had to shoot only against that wall, and the visual quality was so different from how it is when they shoot on sets. It was… jarring. Same for whatever anonymous warehouse Hope and Rafe dumped Stefano’s body. I appreciate that they’re being a little inventive instead of just relegating every single thing to the clearing in the park, though.

Meanwhile, people are finally talking about the fact that Eric was drunk and there will be serious consequences.

Marlena’s like, “What do you mean, he’ll have to do time? Hasn’t he suffered enough by being in the hospital for 12 hours?” She’s trying to talk Eric’s way out of going to prison when he knowingly drove drunk and killed somebody; meanwhile, she’d probably have Sami sent to Death Row (again) for running a stop sign. That said, it’s an interesting conflict and use of Marlena, and I imagine many parents would be torn in the same way.

marlena is on my last nerve in this story line….

LMAO 😄 Remember last Spring we had Kristen, Theresa, and Melanie in that Castle in Italy! Brady is kind of the town bicycle…
Eric’s impending charges should be dropped because he made mistake, he’s the good child, a former priest who can do no wrong (totally being sarcastic). Just like NOBODY, except Andre pointed out that Abigail was in the wrong (and a sl*t) for putting herself in the position (missionary) for not even knowing who her son’s father was.
The school hallway scene sort of reminded me of the Middle School years of Saved By the Bell, it does totally does look like a hallway at the studio. I think the former Salem HS set with the stairs (which used to be the old pier) was converted into Salem U? Now that all the college kids died, dropped out, or mysteriously disappeared I suppose they could revert that set to Salem HS or something else, right?

“All the college kids died, dropped out, or mysteriously disappeared…” It’s funny because it’s true! Yeah, I think they converted Salem High to that lounge at Salem U. I think the problem is that the studio only has space for a certain amount of sets, so if they aren’t going to use something that often, it isn’t efficient to keep it up. So it’s smart that they’re doing these on-the-fly spaces throughout the studio.

The Salem Teen’s scenes looked like they were filmed on the surface of the sun! And why aren’t these emo kids all crying about their family members either being in trouble with the law or recovering from heart surgery? Instead they are all “There’s a bully at school gang! To the Mystery Machine!”.

It was hilarious when Hope came home screaming Ciara and Chase names at the top of her lungs while they were at school. I guess when you are up all night murdering an old man you might forget you bagged up their lunches for school the night before and told them they were on their own?

So The Phoenix body is buried under some cardboard at an abandoned K-Mart? Had I been told this during Soaps/The Demira’s prime in the 80’s-90’s I would have torn up all my Tanner+Molly forever magazine clippings and given up on DAYS right then and there.

Seriously though how many times can they re-purpose that hallway? It was a torture chamber for Hope, a fashion show and now a body dumping ground. Eve and Claire will probably hold a concert there next where Doug, Lonnie and oh lets say Gabi are all killed when a speaker falls on them. I just pulled those names off the top of my head as it seems to be what the writers are doing.

Who has time to cry when everyone you know is dropping dead?! 😉 I think your guess is about as good as anyone’s re: who will randomly be killed next. Every storyline is either about someone coming to town or leaving in a bodybag!

I forgot to mention how funny it was when Ciara took that printed sheet that was put in Theo’s locker and exclaimed, “I hate whoever is sending you these texts!”

      • ADW Says:

OMG 😂 Aside from the fact Ciara sounds either monotone or unnatural when she’s upset, her mouth is still partially stapled shut, I was laughing so hard too the short bus collage was NOT a text.
I agree the scenes with the teens are among the few scenes where somebody remembered turned on lights, I don’t get why because they are overall boring and so detached from other things going on at the moment. 3 out of 5 of the teens are related by blood to Brady, Eric, and/or Jennifer. Chase and Ciara don’t find it odd Hope (who is not working at the moment) is hardly ever home? Joey is in love with Ava and completely oblivious to who she really is.

      • mykleraus Says:

It’s strange, because Joey is SO involved with his parents, and they have Ciara pay a ton of lip service to how weird her mom is acting, but then she’s just limply prancing around preoccupied with other crap.

I like the fact that they are being somewhat creative with their sets and using what they have. I believe Eric’s hospital room is in fact the office set and I thought the chapel was a re-working of the office set as well. Using an actual hallway for the hallway of a school is pretty good but the lighting was very bright. That entire episode had some really close up camera angles going on too which I am not sure I had noticed on the recent episodes until that particular day.

I’m still holding out hope for the return of a decent pier set… I can just see Steve walking on the pier contemplating this whole Ava baby situation and having flashbacks to the day little Billy was ripped away from him at the orphanage!

    • mykleraus Says:

The chapel was definitely that damn blue room. They could’ve hung up a damn sheet over the back or something!

There were REALLY close camera angles by the Salem High lockers, in particular. It was kind of disorienting.
