New Careers, Old Homes

Just a few things that I haven’t addressed yet that got my WTF Sensors going…

I continue to be confounded by the choice to write a story about Sami taking down the DiMeras without Sami being on the show. But roping Belle into it is kind of interesting, and also hilarious because I hate Belle and love Sami for basically putting a target on her back.

Sami’s high school friend, Jamie Caldwell, even got a shoutout from the CPA (Marin?). But the weirdest little nugget in those scenes was Belle’s mention of how she could be disbarred. Whaaaaa? Where did she go to law school — Semester at Sea? And is there some rule that all of Sami’s sisters have to become lawyers while out of town? At this rate, I’m expecting Cassie Brady to pop up as Ben’s defense attorney.

At least they didn’t decide to make Shawn a forensic accountant.

Then there’s the matter of Theresa and Brady’s new home, which was nearly impossible to screencap because it was so dark in there.

As best I can tell, this is John and Marlena’s place redressed. The doors, window, fireplace, and weird cutout that allegedly leads to the other rooms are in the same places. Is Theresa getting another home that’s just a redecorated version of another set? It’s worth noting that they also call John and Marlena’s place a townhouse, even though it has an indoor entrance and no evidence of stairs, which I’m pretty sure means that it’s “just” a condo. Then again, these are the people who think a single room constitutes a mansion, so I shouldn’t be surprised.

My WTF moment happened when Belle first went to see Marlena on Thanksgiving and while she was there, Sami sent Marlena a text that got her worried and Belle’s reaction was “what drama is Sami up to now?” with a roll of the eyes and major attitude. Ummmm…her oldest son…and YOUR oldest nephew…JUST died like 3 days ago…maybe she was calling to talk about her grief? WTF??

Belle hasn’t uttered Will’s name once since she’s been back in town. This bugs me.

Oh, good point. It seemed unnecessarily bitchy regardless — “What, Sami’s in trouble? I’m trying to tell you what a faithless slut I am!” — but the Will thing makes it even worse.

Ugh.. I already can’t stand Belle. She just seems so stone cold, like mike has said. I hope she’s not on much

      • mykleraus Says:

She seriously comes off like such a holier-than-thou prig! I think the writing puts it there, and MM unfortunately really plays into that instead of against it.

The lack of sets is something that really irritated me when I first started watching again. Over time it has become almost comical….mainly because everybody has the same damn office (even the midwife) but it has slowly started improving. I still want the old 80s pier set back. That pier was so iconic and the pier set they used a few months ago was like a cardboard box compared to the real thing. And I still think relatively speaking a pier set wouldn’t be too expensive to build. I guess I shouldn’t complain since they are no longer shoving half of Salem into that one booth at the pub anymore.

    • Dylan Says:

I was so confused when they entered the midwife’s office and it looked like they were in one of the offices at University Hospital! (Jennifer’s/Daniel’s/Kayla’s/Marlena’s office)

    • mykleraus Says:

That pier was pretty pathetic, but I was glad they at least tried to light it dramatically. Were you watching from 2009-2011? They had this absurd pier set that looked like it belonged on Sesame Street. People were always — ALWAYS — hanging out on the bench there or just walking across the pier on their way from lunch to work, like that’s a normal thing people do. It was bizarre.

      • Shea Says:

I was only checking in occasionally during that time so I have no recollection of that pier set.

Back in the 80s the pier was almost the heart of the town. Victor would have meetings with mysterious types and plot dastardly deeds. People were frequently shot, stabbed or beat up there…Steve probably holds that record. You could hide behind part of it so people were always spying on others and of course you would have some romantic and sweet moments there too. And they used the lights reflecting off of the water and the sounds coming from boats and stuff really well back then.

I am not sure when they stopped using that set but I know I have a clear recollection of seeing EJ getting drunk over Sami on the pier and sitting on the steps there sometime in like 2007…Santo and Colleen timeframe. The pier was clearly located near the Brady Fish Market which is now the Pub so if people were strolling on the pier going to and from the pub it makes perfect sense.

      • mykleraus Says:

Yeah, they were using that good pier up until the 2008-09 “reboot” where they trimmed the budget. I remember Marlena at it on the day of John’s funeral in late 2007. The cartoon-looking pier popped up shortly afterward, and it was just so NOT atmospheric (and they never had it be night there, either). People would leave the hospital, walk through the pier, and then be at Maggie’s house within three scenes.

Well, as for Belle being a lawyer, they had a quota to fill since Justin moved over to DA and the others all left town or died. I’m confused Belle and Shawn D. where sailing around the world and in Tahiti as of last spring and now they make it sound like they had a life in Maine. Why hasn’t Belle interacted with her brothers Brady and Paul yet?

    • mykleraus Says:

The Maine thing caught me totally off-guard. As recently as a year or two ago, they were definitely said to be sailing around the world. Does that mean Belle home-schooled Claire? That makes me very nervous.
