The Salem Couples That Time Forgot
Earlier this week, I contributed a feature to SoapHub about some of the, uh, less-remembered pairings in Days history. For example:
Way back in 1999, Lucas was battling Sami for custody of young Will, and Nicole was a (relatively) innocent young model in love with virtuous photographer Eric. That is, until Lucas’s meddling mama, Kate, paid Nicole $5 million to marry him, thus ensuring that he would be granted custody over Sami. There were hints of real feelings between the newlyweds, but Nicole remained drawn to Eric, and when Lucas found out the truth, he was devastated.

Excellent! That was a really fun read, thanks for the memories! Except for the memory of Nicole sleeping with Roman…I could have done without THAT! I must have blocked it out, because I didn’t recall that at all until I got to the part of her showing up at his hotel room and it all came flooding back to me!! Ick.
I actually liked John and Kate together. I thought they had pretty good chemistry together, although it’s hard not to have chemistry with Kate.
Remember when they came back from the island and Marlena was pregnant?? THAT was the craziest thing about that whole Melaswen storyline…

It was SO weird that that was Nicole’s exit. JER had no idea what to do with her for most of his second run.
I thought John and Kate worked well together chemistry-wise, but their relationship never exactly made sense to me. It felt very “love the one you’re with,” which is why I guess it ended with so little fanfare.
And yes, Marlena’s 60-year-old ass being pregnant and then falling down the stairs in the penthouse…!

Nicole/Roman is so icky. It was so random and served no particular plot point. I actually managed to see this – lucky me! – during a time I was on maternity leave and watching the show regularly for the first time since 1991.
I saw an interview with Greg Vaughan and Ari Zucker from a few years ago where the interviewer asked each of them to name three things their character really wanted. Ari, being cute, said “Eric, Roman, Brady” meaning Eric, since that’s his first, middle, and last names. Greg joked, “All three of us?” And then was a bit shocked when he heard Nicole had already had all three of them. LOL.

did they have a mostly blind costume designer back then?

Theresa & JJ (2013) – recent history never discussed
Kate & Nicolas Alamain (wasn’t mentionen when Carly 2.0 was snorting about)

Yeah, I don’t think I’ve heard a single mention of Kayla/Shane since Kayla returned in 2006 (and has, with a few gaps, more or less been around ever since).
Justin/Hope I sort of get, because all they really did was kiss the one time — as a cover of some sort — but then the story got dropped. I’m still annoyed that wasn’t pursued.
I was DYING for them to reference Nicholas’s history with Kate in some way, but the SORASing really fucked things up there. When they finally bit the bullet and brought in Cody Longo as Nicholas, I was hoping for at least some winking reference to it.
I do think they’ve mentioned Theresa and JJ pretty recently. Paige had some line after the Eve reveal about JJ sleeping with all her relatives. (I’m also still annoyed they aborted JJ/Theresa, which was interesting, in favor of dull-ass Paige.)
