Friends in Low Places

No, that is not a portrait of me realizing that Days wasn’t preempted today and I’d have to watch.

But for real, how hilariously weird were those Marlena/Serena scenes yesterday? They were both ratcheted up to like a 17 on a scale of 1 to 10. “How could you and my son BREAK UP????” “Bitch, you gotta go IT’S AN EMERGENCY!!!!!11” These actresses must be so bored that they just agreed to play these relatively mundane scenes like they were a season finale of American Horror Story.

No, that’s not a selfie I took while watching this episode.

I don’t even know what to say about this whole Nicole/Xander/Serena/Eric climax. I guess I’m glad something is happening. Did they even explain how Eric got into this “completely sealed-off” building, or how he knew to find her there? How were Xander and Navidad just able to take control of the entire damn building? Wouldn’t it have made sense for them to attack Nicole at home? We don’t know where she lives, but the characters don’t know she’s homeless!

That said, the scenes down in the basement corridors on Thursday’s show actually looked decent. I’m willing to bet they filmed in the actual hallways of the studio, but still.

God, we could really use a boardinghouse type of place. They could bring back Maggie’s kitchen and have everyone moving through there, and when they cut to those swing-set bedrooms, we’d at least have some context for where they were. It would be interesting for Maggie or Adrienne or somebody to run that sort of place.

In happier news, Kristian Alfonso posted this on Instagram:

Yay to Peter Reckell being there! But mostly yay to the actual Brady Pub set being used and not just that godforsaken booth.

Are the new writers here yet? Because I don’t think I can maintain an entire blog just analyzing and complaining about the sets on Days of Our Lives.

I would love it if the show went all meta, and after running through the studio corridors, Nicole and Eric turned up in Days make-up and Maggie was getting her wig put on or something.

I’ve fast forwarded the entire Eric/Serena/Nicole/Xander storyline (OK, except all those Xander getting out of the shower scenes – he seems to take as many as Paul). But even in fast forward, this week’s scenes seemed much more interesting than the previous few months. And by the way, Nicole’s monologues seem to go on forever in fast forward so I can only imagine what it’s like to actually sit through one.

You have no idea. This woman has been talking to herself for weeks!

The pace has definitely picked up. It feels like this story is breaking open, at least — I just hope it continues to do so.

And Xander shirtless is a good thing. Thank god for small miracles.

WTH was up with Serena and Marlena?! Those scenes were crazy and funny.

Xander will need a long hot shower after this week.

Yay for Peter Reckell bringing back the Brady Pub.

    since 10 AM.
it is on til 2 PM.
even w/o this thing DOOL gets preempted MORE than any other soap… stuff, you name it…..breaking news!! for (not) breaking news, that channel will butt in forever to talk about some stupid thing. ok. guess i am done. thank you!!

Somehow, NBC here is usually okay except with the damn news interruptions. There’s always some stupid L.A. car chase going on and they think we NEED coverage of it the entire time, so a lot of the time, I’ll miss like 30 minutes of the episode and not be able to see the full thing til it’s on Hulu the next morning. So annoying.

Those are the times I really miss Soapnet.

It was so nice to be able to catch it at night if it got pre-empted. I don’t mind watching on Hulu at all, but sometimes waiting until the next day sucks.
