What Happened in Salem: Week of June 8th

Another week, another confusing DiMera plot…

Abigail and Chad made love, which is what you call having sex when you’re cheating on your boyfriend with your ex, who is also the brother of your former lover. Afterward, she was racked with guilt. Stefano teleported back to Salem to congratulate Chad on his conquest (creepy) and encourage him to get back with Abigail for real (for unclear reasons). Chad later told Abigail that he’d only slept with her to prove that she still wanted him and called her a slut; this earned him a slap across the face before Abigail marched out, devastated. Stefano realized that Chad had lied to Abigail in order to protect her from whatever Stefano’s current scheme is.

BAD: Nicole saying “Yesssss!” and “Come to mamma” when she sees Xander’s murder conviction. Wouldn’t “Holy shit!” or “OMFG, I need to get the fuck out of dodge!” have been more appropriate?!

BAD: Abigail! Just when I thought she couldn’t bug the shit out of me any more, she has her usual nerve to LEAD CHAD ON, CHEAT ON HER BOYFRIEND, LIE TO HER BOYFRIEND, THEN DUMP CHAD, and SHE slaps Chad as she whines about how could HE be so cruel????!!!!

BAD: The Adrienne/Lucas outing. Could the old writers who apparently still have some hand in things have written it any more lamely???!!!

GOOD: The 5 minutes of Brady and Theresa. These 2 have so much chemistry and Jen is amazing!

GOOD: Theresa teasing JJ. Thank you Jen Lilly!!!!!!

GOOD: Justin and Adrienne! Two major veteran actors and characters have a real-deal storyline???!!!

GOOD: Hope/Rafe tracking down a bad guy. It’s so old-school true Days! Can we pull Abe into this loop?

GOOD: Daniel’s talk with JJ and being the first sane and reasonable adult in his life to set him on the right path.

GOOD: The Dannifer scenes. I hope the new writers put them on a reunion track.

BAD: Paige ripping up the Stanford check … no really, Paige, just go to LA. I’m not sure what annoys me more, Paige as a good girl or as a bad girl. Both portrayals are equally uninspiring. Can we get a recast? And WHAT??!!! PAIGE gets a bed and a bureau, but Hope still lives in Horton Square and Paul is still living out of a suitcase???!!!

    GOOD: Rory. More please.

NOT SURE: Xander’s rage scenes, especially the voiceless scream, were pretty disturbing. But not sure if the acting was better suited for Days or for a Shakespearean play?

Ha! Good list. There ARE at least some decent things going on — they’re just being outweighed by the mountains of crap we’re having to suffer through. Arianne Zucker deserves combat pay.

And the Xander actor is at least trying. That moment was weird, but at least it was real acting and he was channeling something legitimate. He’s selling Xander probably more than he should be able to, given the writing.

I totally feel your pain Mikey on the Danicole kissing scene (did you let a voiceless scream rip?)!! But, let’s look on the bright side … at least she wasn’t giving him a shave, right? And maybe we can hang onto the hope that it’s all just serving to motivate Xander to kidnap Nicole, so that Eric can save her and reunite, and then Jen and Dan are free to get back together!

The best part of the week….was when Paul walked away as Sonny was walking up and Will, holding Arianna, told Sonny that Paul just “came to wish our daughter a happy birthday.” The look on his face….I seriously don’t know how Freddie Smith got through that scene without laughing his ass off! He’s so completely awful.

I know!!! Since Guy isn’t a real actor, he probably doesn’t know that real actors try out their various faces and stares in front of a mirror first to see how it looks.

    • mykleraus Says:

That was horrifyingly bad. Will just comes off so transparent and stupid.

      • Gavin Says:

        I really miss Chandler.

      • mykleraus Says:

I do, too. I wasn’t like a crazed Chandler Massey stan, but he was solid, and he managed to infuse an often-annoying character with a high degree of, if not likability, at least sympathy. GW is not up to the challenge, especially in light of the dreadful writing.
