What Happened in Salem: Week of June 1st

It might have been a short week, but there was still plenty of time for stupid decision-making…

Serena was upset when Eric informed her that he needed more than one day to uproot his life in Salem and move to Hawaii with her. The fact that she was being unreasonable and demanding did not seem to upset him, though — but he soon had a totally separate reason, as he saw a photo that had been messengered to her that showed her and Xander in bed together. Serena insisted that she’d only been with Xander after Eric left Africa, and she was embarrassed because she’d come to realize how awful he was, but Eric felt her story didn’t add up and said he wouldn’t move to Hawaii with her if she were a liar (but if she’s rude, habitually late, and unable to keep a plan, that’s fine).

remember brady and his obsessive marriage proposals? add eric to the list of men who need a LOT of help in salem… then again i guess that is kinda sexist…..now that i think of it
everyone in salem needs medication……maybe someday an episode will reveal the town of salem is really an out patient mental facility being filmed and watched constantly… like the truman show….

Short week aside, I’m more convinced than ever that the new writers have arrived. Brady/Melanie goodbye was GOLD! And there’s also NO WAY the high school cheerleader contest winners could have written those icing on the cake scenes of both having their moments with Tate. Also, I can’t remember the last time I saw a “what if scene” like we used to see ALL the time … yet here we have Paul imagining the what-if of making out with Sonny at his hotel door. And though the SLs may not be perfect just yet, I can totally see the re-writes in action for Xander/Nicole/Serena/Eric, as well as for Chad/Abigail. I have no clue where Paige and JJ are headed, but the most absolutely brilliant piece of dialogue I have seen written in the past year was:
Paige: You can go straight to hell!
    JJ: I’m already there.

BRILLIANT! Again, this did not leak from the pen of a contest winner! And how crazy golden was Brady telling Melanie that she gave him his son by cracking Kristin’s plot, and then gave him Tate all over again by leaving Salem, then saying every time Tate laughed or cried he’d think of her and he’d share all those moments with her. And what about how they both WHISPERED I love you??!! I actually spent every day looking forward to the next episode, which I have not done in a year!

    Can I get an Amen???!!

I think we’re definitely seeing some rewrites or mandates from higher-up with regards to the Serena story. Suddenly it’s in gear and feels like it’s climaxing. Thank GOD.

The script-writing is often pretty good, IMO, even when the stories suck. So I wasn’t surprised that Melanie’s goodbyes and the stuff with Brady was good. They tend to step it up for that kind of stuff, often because the emotion of the situation overrides the dumb overall story. I still thought Melanie’s exit was stupid in terms of logic, which speaks to the overall quality (or lack thereof) in the writing.

btw, on the recap reference to Nicole murdering victor. I TOTALLY forgot about that! Something about a radio going into the tub with him? Or was it that Nicole forced Jan to drop the radio? Or am I thinking of someone else’s murder by electrocution? Anyone?

Ari only seems to be happy when she’s with Paul. Otherwise, she does her bitchy puss-face at everyone … something she inherited from her father?

not a happy baby…..where the hell do they get these things…..i mean, children? she looks stunned.
