What Happened in Salem: Week of May 25th

The battle over baby Tate wasn’t the only thing heating up…

Justin was about to head back to Dubai — and Elsa — when Victor stopped him in his tracks by letting him know that he’d had another attorney assigned to those endless negotiations (seriously, what are they working on, a bid for the Olympics?!). Victor wanted Justin to stay in Salem and take on some new, vague, high-level post at Titan, which would make him Kate’s boss. Justin was tempted by the prospect of taking on Lucas in business. Still, Justin and Kate wasted no time clashing about this new arrangement. Lucas and Adrienne, who had just spent the night together, were amused by Victor’s puppeteering.

Watching Friday’s episode as I type (we get it on Monday in Australia) – and there sure are a lot of redheads on the show at the moment. Yep, that’s my big takeaway from this week.

OK, I swear this is not a joke and I am being serious …. was last week the first on-screen week with the new writers and producer? Because last week I genuinely felt that the show was back! It just seemed a total shift back into quality story-telling, old-school Days style. There was just something so different and meaningful and believable about the dialogue, in like every scene all week! I’m serious. And I almost got a vibe of RELIEF from the actors … like “Thank god I finally have something believable and meaningful to utter out of my mouth.”
    Think about it:
1.) Justin and Kate … BRILLIANT!!!!!!! And they totally slam dunked it from the very first scene together!

2.) Justin/Kate vs. Adrienne/Lucas … ok, NOW we’re getting at a legit storyline! AND, a 4-some SL with veteran characters AND actors??!!!

3.) I totally feel everyone’s pain on Xander/Nicole/Serena. BUT, I feel a good old-fashioned kidnapping of Nicole coming on, that could only come from new writers?

4.) I don’t have a finger yet on what’s next for Eve/JJ/Paige/Jen … BUT, the dialogue between Jen and Paige seemed to go 180 old-school Days.

5.) I see groundwork getting laid for the new adventures of Brady & Theresa, with hopefully a heavier Ann presence. And remember everyone, it’s pronounced “Tate-ah”

6.) The K living room come-back … thank you new producers?

I think the real clues will come from Sonny/Will/Paul … I can’t wait to see where they are at this week and if their stuff suddenly gets more depth and played to it’s true potential, then I’m going to swear we are now seeing the stuff from the new writers and producer.

Except … they still haven’t fired the old wardrobe department. Check out the scenes again at the kitchen counter with Daniel/Melanie/Maggie….Daniel’s hair looked like he ran it through the blender, and Melanie had yet another unedited wardrobe malfunction … the hanger string was hanging out of the back of her dress. AND, it continued into the following scenes with Brady on the couch. Then randomly was fixed midway through the Brady convo.

Oh, and another sure sign the new writers are in: if Serena ends up going to Hawaii all alone, never to return. And thereby opening the way for Eric to rescue Nicole from Xander’s kidnapping, then realize she put her life in danger to get info to help him, and voila the return of Ericole.

    • otherweb1 Says:

Casey Moss still looks like he’s either high or hungover.

      • mykleraus Says:

Hungover seems right. He’s kind of bloated, too. His delivery seems back on today, though. I bet you they shot ALL that shit in a single day.

      • otherweb1 Says:

True, hopefully he shot it all in one day, cuz I really hope this isn’t what we can now expect from him on a regular basis!

    • mykleraus Says:

No, I had the same thought. The new producers aren’t being credited yet (same with the new writers), but it absolutely feels like someone stepped in during the taping of last week’s shows and started to make changes. I think/hope that we’re going to see a bunch of course-correcting take place before the new regime’s material officially starts. I noticed that we haven’t seen Ben’s and Eric’s apartments lately, either, and those were two of the new sets that came in when the mansions were downsized.

I didn’t notice that thing with Melanie. I’m always so horrified how they have her in those weird open-backed sweaters with, like, her bra (or some weird lacy half-shirt) showing underneath.

      • otherweb1 Says:

Good thought … maybe the new writers are working with the idiot writers to start swaying stuff but aren’t getting called out on the credits just yet.

Assuming Theresa gets her way and moves into the K mansion, her set will also get struck, which could be more good news for a Pub revival … And having the pub back should mean that Eric’s apt will also get struck since he will move in over the pub, and Ben can get a room there too. So there, voila, a simple formula for destroying that ridiculous 2-seater and getting a real restaurant back! NOW, if we could just get Hope her damn house back!

I don’t think there is enough DiMera SL yet to support the D living room. But with Tate-ah and Justin/Kate and Justin/Kate vs. Adrienne/Lucas SLs, that crappy little study couldn’t hold that much drama! But can we also get Jay Kenneth Johnson back with the living room?!

      • mykleraus Says:

I would love to have Philip back. I don’t think JKJ ever wants to return, which sucks.

      • otherweb1 Says:

Well, given JKJ’s “new look” it’s probably best that he not appear on screen. lol

      • mykleraus Says:

        True! Hahaha.
