Adios, Miscellaneous Woman

I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but I don’t have anything snotty or bitchy to say about Gabi’s exit!

I do have a gripe, which is that Nick’s exit was set up as a whodunnit, but we basically had a few days of Lucas being under suspicion, then Will falsely confessed, and then Gabi really confessed, and that was it. There wasn’t much mystery or investigation to it, which seems like a waste.

That said: both Blake Berris and Camila Banus were on their way out, and they had to integrate that into the story, and I do think they did it in a dramatic way that’s going to propel things forward. Banus really stepped it up during her final week — I’ve always thought she was fine, but she was very strong with Gabi coming clean and then saying goodbye to her loved ones. And they actually took the time to give her goodbyes with just about every relevant person she’s ever interacted with (even T! And no Daniel!). I loved the way that the Melanie/Andrew debacle was integrated, and how Victor talked to Sonny and Will about how Brady was also separated from his mother at a very young age, and about a thousand other lovely touches.

What’s interesting is that Gabi has never been a character who held much gravity or meaning. She was sort of The Other Young Girl for a long while, but the Melanie thing, her pregnancy, and then her relationship with Nick really started to flesh her out. It took almost five years, but they’re sending Gabi off as a character with strong potential to return down the line: hardened by prison, having lost years with her child (shades of Kate!), desperate to rebuild her life. I can’t believe I’m typing this, but Gabi Hernandez could actually be useful to Days of Our Lives in a few years’ time.

Yeah, I feel the same way! I was always so bored and annoyed with Gabi, just never…ugh, she was just so worthless. And in ONE WEEK it all turned around and she was FINALLY given compelling story, and now she’s gone. I spent months, years, waiting for Gabi’s exit to come. Now that it has, I’m kind of upset about it! And I never thought I’d even think it, but I can’t wait for her to get out of prison and come back.

They’ve done such a good job making use of Gabi’s history, they’ve mentioned their sister Arianna, the Invisible Mama Hernandez, Rafe promising to take care of Gabi.. The fact that Gabi looks up to Rafe almost like a father and how he always makes excuses for her behavior. Why did it take them so long to make use of Gabi’s history to create an interesting story?

They seem to do this a lot when it comes time for people’s exits. It’s really weird. Why not use this stuff to write an actual interesting story?!

I never really minded her, but I spent a lot of time thinking, “Wait, why is this girl on the show?” At least her pregnancy made her relevant. But they actually now have the foundation for an interesting character down the line.

Agree with a lot of your hilarious tweets except for the ones about Daniel. He’s a good guy! Love him. Of course, not like the love I have for James S. Completely heartbroken that he will no longer be a part of my life, 5 days a week!!!!!!!!! He’s gorgeous and amazingly talented. Days better NOT kill him off. I hope they recast Sami and have another Dimera brother appear out of the blue. Hope EJ comes back in a year or so after he ‘finds himself’ in real life.

Days is gonna be weeeeird without EJ. He’s been such a driving force for the show.

I actually don’t hate Daniel/Shawn Christian, exactly — I think he works as a supporting character. What I can’t handle is everyone running around raving about what a Great Man he is. It’s insane and unnecessary.

now we just have 2 dudes that will be telling everyone the baby is napping……
