What Show Am I Watching?!

Scene of the Week has to go to that fantastic Julie/Nick chat from Tuesday’s episode, no?

Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 7.45.02 AM

It was exactly what I love about Days when it’s good: using material from the past (in this case, going all the way back to the very first episode!) to inform something compelling going on in the present. Julie talking about the difference between rebellious, foolish Julie Olson and mature Julie Williams was fascinating, and it made me think about a world in which, say, Sami gets to have the same talk with an out-of-control Ciara or Claire Brady (or one of their kids) someday. Susan Seaforth Hayes was restrained and kept the ham to a minimum — and her hair looks great with a little color in it, as opposed to the super-stark white — and Blake Berris has been doing amazing work even as Nick gets completely out of control. Can we get more stuff like this and less Daniel-worshipping, please?

Yeah. The last scenes with Nick and Julie before he was shot were also quite incredible, when she tells him that he needs to “fight his demons” and he’s at first defensive, then he seems to actually take her advice to heart. Then him crying while he was calling Marlena, and flashing back to all these events in the past. Props to Blake Berris!

OMG YES. I was on the verge of tears watching those scenes. I loved, loved, loved how Julie even brought it back to Nick’s mom, Jessica, and her own mental health struggles. They really hit it out of the park with these two this week.

These were terrific scenes. I hope Blake is nominated for an Emmy next year.
