The Walking Dead

January 28, 2014

Did someone give Susan Seaforth-Hayes the note that she’s supposed to play Julie as a character living in the Salem Serial Killer era?

She was too damn much on Monday’s episode with all the “Gabi, you fainted DEAD away!!!” and “Before you leave, everyone, I’m going to ask Nick a question, and he has to answer it!” (Why does she have to ask him where he’s been with random people like Kate, EJ, and Sonny present?) I was half-expecting her to bust out with, “Nick, you look like a DROWNED RAT, hint hint!!!” I know she’s been acting like a deranged old biddy, but I love it. It’s hilarious, and someone’s gotta do it. And Sami’s shade the other day with “You know how Julie loves a buffet” was so ridiculous but weirdly fitting.

Nick’s whole return so far has been A+ work. Blake Berris is playing it creepily but not insanely over-the-top (for Salem), it’s suspenseful, and I honestly have no idea what comes next. Him being alive also allows the dark humor/camp factor to feel justified because we aren’t dealing with an actual death, which is nice. Everyone shoving food into their faces at the DiMera mansion while they panicked, and all the side comments between Sami and Kate lately (“Amateurs. Ugh.”), has all been so great. And if that weren’t enough, now we get Psycho For Older Men Abigail blackmailing EJ for another ride on the DiMera Rocket. This show is so damn fun right now.

Really Good Amazing Casting News

I have to hide this behind a cut because it’s spoiler-y, but I AM QUAKING WITH EXCITEMENT.

What Happened in Salem: Week of Jan. 20th

January 27, 2014

Per usual, a big Salem party invited a total disaster…

The day of Arianna Grace’s christening arrived, as Julie’s suspicions about Nick mounted. Everyone involved in the cover-up panicked, and EJ tried to keep Abigail from saying anything to Julie and Hope. At this point, you’d think these people would stop planning elaborate events at this church; it basically gets the same results as saying “Beetlejuice” three times. Miraculously, the christening went off without a hitch… but then a very much alive Nick Fallon walked into the church!

Medieval Crimes

January 26, 2014

So the ending of Friday’s episode was shocking even though I totally could see it coming, which was pretty awesome. I can’t wait to see how they follow up on Nick’s re-emergence. I’m hoping he plays it like he doesn’t remember and then slowly tortures everyone who conspired to cover up his “death.” And could it have been him taking photos of EJ and Abigail at the Horton cabin?

On to more important matters, though:

Is Gabi the mother of an infant about to be christened or a seven-year-old about to perform a Ren Faire-themed routine in her first figure skating competition?

Aside from the crushed velvet, empire-waisted dress with hippie hair adornments, then you had this jacket/scarf (?!) combo that evokes nothing so much as a medieval wizard. I kept alternating between covering my eyes and rewinding to be sure I was seeing this correctly. You mean to tell me that she was running all over Salem dressed like this and no one was like, “That’s it. Gabi has officially lost it”? Then again, it’s perhaps not as bad as the time she dressed as a Fly Girl.

Character Returns… With a New Face

January 24, 2014

Surprising recast (both in terms of who the character is and who’ll be portraying said character) announced today. Go behind the cut if you dare…

Days Renewed!

January 23, 2014

Some very happy news after this week’s shocking casting announcement

NBC Renews ‘Days of Our Lives’ for Two Years

Days has been picked up through September 2016, which will officially take it past its 50th anniversary in November 2015! I was really praying they’d at least make it to that milestone, but it looks like we’ll have the “good” people of Salem in our lives even beyond that (also, given the taping schedule, they’ve probably already shot the 50th anniversary).

Also, I’m including this picture that The Hollywood Reporter used in its article, because it’s hilarious. Of all the photos they could have used —

“Look, we’re celebrating — in terror!” The only thing better would be if they’d used that still of Marlena getting hit in the face with a plate.

What Happened in Salem: Week of January 13th

January 23, 2014

EJ and Abigail talked a lot about how they can’t talk about that one thing they love to talk about anymore. Meanwhile…

Sonny surprised Will with a marriage proposal. Will said no, because he insists upon equal rights — and if there’s no one waiting in the wings to storm in and ruin his wedding, then he isn’t having a wedding at all!
