The Story That Wasn’t There

Remember in 2009 when Philip Kiriakis and Stephanie Johnson were a major couple? It’s so nice that they’re still driving story in 2013.

Oh wait. I don’t see either of them in this scene. Or at the Kiriakis mansion, where the story of Parker’s mixed-up paternity is also playing out.

Hmm.

I did appreciate the random, weird flashback of Stephanie and Ian (NOT MADISON’S IAN STOP MAKING ME THINK OF HIM AND BOTH OF THEM PLEASE)…

…but poor Kayla (poor Mary Beth Evans), having to put on her reading specs just to recap story from two years ago and explain Ian’s heretofore totally unspecified motivations and substance abuse problem (?!).

But seriously: Stephanie drops a major bomb and Philip comes to visit with the son he just found out isn’t biologically his, and we don’t get to see either of them? Are they both hanging out with Bo? Come to think of it, though, this could be a revolutionary new storytelling strategy for Days. Who shot Stefano? I vote Tommy Horton! We never even have to see him! Who’s going to expose Gabi at the wedding? Might as well be Jan Spears. She’ll tell everyone offscreen! As my friend Ira said, eventually this show will just be Hope sitting in the Brady Pub, making one-way phone calls that narrate what’s happening elsewhere (“Bo, you have to stay in Europe to help Carly with Vivian? Okay! Hang on, I have to go talk to Kayla in the kitchen!”).

On the plus side, we actually get opera-singing raccoon Chloe Lane back in Salem.

I love Nadia Bjorlin and have a strange fondness for Chloe despite basically a decade of horrible writing, but I was still a little startled by all the makeup. Props on the fur, though. Way to make an entrance.

Elsewhere, we get the riveting twist of Jennifer tripping over a box of paper.

If that ain’t a commentary on the budget, I don’t know what is.

LOL at the drama of Jennifer tripping over a box.

This story would have had so much more emotional impact if we had Philip, Stephanie and Melanie actually onscreen. It feels like pointless drama to drive a wedge between Daniel and Jennifer.

    or spell to correctly

She tripped over a box and knocked herself out… and hilarity ensued…(because of the poor writing) I get that they were trying to delay her from making it to Daniel’s apartment but I think it would have been more believable if she had twisted her ankle in the shoes that she was already complaining hurt her feet and therefore could not drive and Billie could insist she get it x-rayed and delay her from getting to her date. BUT that would make way too much sense and it wouldn’t be Days if it made sense…

And then Billie just appeared inside the house? Why did she leave the damn box if she was coming inside anyway? Sometimes I think they do this stuff just to keep us on our toes…

  5. fluffysmom Says:

I find it funny that Billie seems to pop up in these idiotic scenes. I guess they need to use her somehow.

She’s seriously all over the place. I like seeing her, and she brings a fun energy, but she’s like the anti-Bo, just showing up here and there and everywhere without explanation.
